Shaw Media will join us to discuss their documentary programming priorities for their broadcast services which includes History and Global TV’s Close Up, ‘a series of one off documentaries that chronicle the extraordinary and unusual world outside our door.’

Hear directly from production executives on what they are looking for, how much they will pay, and their process for proposals. Jeannette Loakman will be moderating this session. There will be plenty of time for questions from the audience and one DOC Toronto member will have the opportunity to pitch live in front of the panel.

NICK CROWE
Director, Original Factual Content

Nick Crowe

As Director of Original Factual Content at Shaw Media, Nick Crowe oversees production and development of new series and specials destined for History Television, TVtropolis and Global. Nick has been with Shaw Media since 2010 in the role of Production Executive. Prior to that Nick worked at Alliance Atlantis and Canwest Broadcasting in a number of roles, including Production Executive and Program Manager for History Television.

Recent credits include D-Day to Victory, William Shatner’s Weird or What, Dieppe Uncovered and Curse of the Axe.

 

 

 

 

ZACH FELDBERG
Sr. Manager, Global Entertainment, Dramatics & Factual, Digital Shaw Media

Zach FeldbergZach Feldberg oversees the production, commissioning and distribution of digital content related to Global, Showcase, History, MovieTime, TVtropolis, and numerous other specialty television properties.
Zach has nearly a decade’s worth of experience in the creative broadcast industry. He previously worked in Original Dramatic Programming at Alliance Atlantis and Canwest, where he was a member of the team responsible for accepting, reviewing and evaluating written and verbal pitches for new television series.
In addition, Zach has indulged his passion for storytelling as a freelance writer and editor, with work being published in The Globe & Mail, The Toronto Star, and other publications.

Barbara Shearer

 

A gemini award winning writer, director and producer of factual and reality programming, Shearer is currently serving as an Executive in Charge of Production for Shaw Media.

 

 

 

 

JEANNETTE LOAKMAN, Moderator

Jeannette LoakmanJeannette Loakman is the Executive Producer and owner of Chaser Films. Jeannette is an award-winning producer with over 12 years of experience in the television industry. She is currently producing the documentary film Peep Me for CBC Newsworld and Canal D with Chocolate Box Entertainment. Her last film Cat Ladies premiered at Hot Docs 2009, screening also at Silverdocs and San Francisco Doc Festival, and doubled the ratings for TVO. Jeannette was also nominated for a Gemini for Spam: The Documentary, a critical and ratings hit, Spam is the story of one man’s comical search for the origins of bulk unsolicited email.

After the presentation by Shaw Media, one attendee will have the opportunity to verbally pitch (no trailers, please) a project to the panelists. This will be a voluntary surprise pitch, where attendees will put their name in a hat at the event and a name will be drawn randomly.
