2023 DOC Institute Honours Awards - Nominations Now Open
The DOC Institute will celebrate two remarkable individuals in the Canadian documentary community at this year’s 10th Annual DOC Institute Honours Awards. Awards night will be held in Toronto in early December at a time and location still to be announced.

An initiative of the Doc Institute – the Ontario chapter of the Documentary Organization of Canada – the DOC Institute Honours is an annual gathering of Canada’s leading documentary film industry professionals at which two awards are presented to visionaries working in the Canadian documentary industry.
The Rogers-DOC Luminary Award is presented to an individual whose leadership and creative spirit has made a significant contribution to the genre and benefitted the Canadian documentary community. The award is supported by the Rogers Group of Funds. Previous honourees are Anita Lee, Syvia D. Hamilton. Anne Pick, Zoe Dirse, Alanis Obomsawin, Chris McDonald, Daniel Cross, Elizabeth Klinck, and Marc Glassman.
“This is the 10th Anniversary of The Doc Institute’s Honours Awards, so it’s a particularly special occasion for us,” said Lauren Howes, Managing Director of The DOC Institute. “It is a really wonderful opportunity for the Doc Institute to gather community and celebrate the achievements of individuals who pursue the Institute’s mission in their own careers and have made significant positive impacts in supporting and championing Canadian documentary talent.”
The Vanguard Award is presented to an emerging or mid-career professional whose keen artistic sensibility and visionary approach has made them a talent to watch. Previous recipients are Nisha Pahuja, Tamara Mariam Dawit, Chelsea McMullan, Millifiore Clarkes, Lisa Jackson, Amar Wala, Victoria Lean, Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, and Brett Story.
“The Vanguard Award highlights the next generation of documentary filmmakers”, said Lalita Krishna, Board Member of the Doc Institute. “We want to recognize the diverse group of talented filmmakers who now have the opportunity to tell their stories”.
The DOC Institute Honours are juried from nominations submitted by the membership of the Documentary Organization of Canada, an association of more than 1,000 members, representing six chapters from coast to coast to coast and from across the documentary film sector.
The DOC Institute Honours is an annual event supported by presenting sponsor, CBC, and award sponsor Rogers Group of Funds.
Le DOC Institute célèbrera deux personnalités remarquables de la communauté du documentaire canadien cette année lors du gala annuel des 10e Grands Prix du DOC Institute qui se tiendra à Toronto début décembre. La date et le lieu seront confirmés ultérieurement.

À l’initiative du chapitre de l’Ontario de l’Association des documentaristes du Canada, le DOC Institute Honours est un rassemblement annuel des professionnels de l’industrie du cinéma documentaire au Canada dont deux prix sont remis à des visionnaires travaillant dans l’industrie canadienne de cinéma documentaire.
Le premier prix, le Rogers-DOC Luminary Award, est remis à un individu dont le leadership et l’esprit créateur ont contribué de façon importante au genre et qui en a fait bénéficier la communauté documentariste. Le prix est soutenu par le Rogers Group of Funds. Les précédents lauréats de ce prix sont Anita Lee, Sylvia D. Hamilton, Anne Pick, Zoe Dirse, Alanis Obomsawin, Chris McDonald, Daniel Cross, Elizabeth Klinck, et Marc Glassman.
« Ce 10e anniversaire des Grands prix du DOC Institute est une occasion particulière pour nous, » a déclaré Lauren Howe, directeur.trice de l’administration du DOC Institute. « C’est une merveilleuse occasion pour le DOC Institute de réunir la communauté et de célébrer les accomplissements de personnes qui poursuivent la mission du DOC Institute dans leur propre carrière et qui ont eu un impact important en soutenant et défendant les talents du documentaire canadien. »
Le deuxième prix, le Vanguard Award, reconnait un professionnel émergent ou en mi-carrière qui démontre une vive sensibilité artistique et une vision le distinguant comme un talent à suivre de près. Les précédents lauréats de ce prix sont Nisha Pahuja, Sylvia Tamara Mariam Dawit, Chelsea McMullan, Millifiore Clarkes, Lisa Jackson, Amar Wala, Victoria Lean, Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, et Brett Story.
« Le prix Vanguard Award met en lumière la prochaine génération de documentaristes », a déclaré Lalita Krishna, membre du Conseil d’administration du DOC Institute. « Nous voulons reconnaitre la diversité des groupes de cinéastes de talent qui ont désormais la possibilité de raconter leurs propres histoires. »
La sélection des nominations pour le DOC Institute Honours se fait sous la direction d’un jury. Les nominations sont soumises par l’Association des documentaristes du Canada, une association qui réunit plus de 1,000 membres dans six chapitres d’un océan à l’autre.
Le DOC Institute Honours est un évènement annuel dont la présentation est commanditée par Radio-Canada. Les commanditaire des prix étant Rogers Group of Funds.
